Rotary Club of East Sutherland’s Classic Car Tour 2018
At 9 am on 19th May around sixty classic cars of varying ages, their drivers and navigators fuelled by breakfast at the Courthouse, will leave Dornoch Square on the fifth annual Car Tour organised by the Rotary Club of East Sutherland.
They travel across the centre of Sutherland via Bonar Bridge and Lairg to Ledmore Junction. There they will head towards Ullapool turning right through a wonderful series of mountains for mid-morning refreshments at the Highland Piping Cafe in Achiltibuie overlooking the Summer Isles.
The route then takes them north along the twisty Inverpolly road to Lochinver for lunch at Glencanisp Lodge which is part of the community-owned Assynt Foundation. From here there are stunning views of the iconic mountains Suilven and Canisp, the former the setting for ‘Evie’ a film starring Sheila Hancock which will be released shortly.
The final stretch is back across central Sutherland passing Loch Assynt to Lairg eventually joining the A9 at The Mound to a check-in and sumptuous tea at Dunrobin Castle just north of Golspie.
To round off the day the participants and Rotarians members will be welcomed to a Ceilidh and prize-giving in the West Church Hall in Dornoch.
Each driver will be sponsored. In each of the previous years at least £10,000 has been raised. As in the past, all the monies will go to the RNLI and Rotary charities.
Every year the organisers pray for clement weather and so far they have not been disappointed
